    Yeah, well, JonF, in the Old Stoned Age (I like that!) I could hitchhike to and from town to campus, and never fear for my safety. Anyway, from the first paragraph, fifty dollars a YEAR for a cellphone is not exactly big spending. I’m not sending my kid driving into an unsafe neighborhood (where the campus is) without a cell phone. Yes, I could pay Triple A a lot of money for all-family coverage for our (mostly) old cars, but I’d just rather the kids call the tow trucks if necessary (and knock on wood, it hasn’t been.) But nobody will give you a tow without a credit card.
